STEM being applied in AFL – Australian Rules Football College – A huge thank you to Michael Osborne

Sam Shinksy and Josh Kerr were invited to participate in a 3 hour Football intensive. They first met Michael at TGE (The Gadget Expo) just over a month ago. Here they learnt from Michael how STEM was being applied in the AFL, something both boys are very passionate about.

Firstly, Michael had the boys focus on aspects of their game they wanted to improve. Then in the 2nd half Josh and Sam were able to focus on strength and conditioning with the help of Kyle Parkinson, an Exercise Physiology undergraduate.

The boys had such a good time and are keen to promote such opportunities to their respective junior football clubs.

I learnt a great deal myself with regard to the application of science in football.

I would encourage footy clubs to think about booking in a session over the “off” season whilst it is potentially easier to book in. It was quite incredible how much the boys took away from just one session.
