Great to be reconnecting with inspirational people contributing to the learning ecosystem!

Thank you Peter Hutton for the invitation to connect and contribute to a bold vision. The use of Lego to unpack your “6 point plan” for a “Learning Hub” was very clever.

Love the A to F

All for inclusive

Best for again incorporating models of Inclusive best or future practice

Community – needs no explanation

Do – A community of doers

Engagement and Empowerment – we can do better

Flexibility and Freedom – Absolutely

It was great to meet Pasi  Sahlberg, having only ever connected over Linkedin. A great mix of new and old faces for me with a shared and collective passion for a new paradigm in Education.

The point made tonight about engagement being on the decline in Australia, in my humble opinion, is the most worrying statistic. I think this summary below demonstrates we in Australia are suffering from “Structural Failure”. This closing statement in the paper published by the Gonski Institute sums it up well…

“More of the same won’t work. In 2021, school education ranks alongside other areas of public life facing calls for different thinking. In responding to the pandemic, so many Australians have rediscovered a capacity to subsume personal preference for the greater good; in school education, the past arguments and staked-out positions should belong to yesterday. The education of our young people clearly has a much longer time scale than a pandemic, yet is no less worthy of large-scale effort and change. The possible solutions are within reach and may not even need a substantial new financial investment, but they do need an investment of commitment and imagination, and a courageous determination to transform the mistakes of the past into opportunities for the future.”

What we saw tonight was exactly what we need “an investment of commitment and imagination, and a courageous determination to transform the mistakes of the past into opportunities for the future”

Let’s get behind the idea of “Learning Hubs” and look for ways to address the failures in the structure! Reach out to Future Schools to find out more what they mean by “Learning Hubs”. Like with any renovation, there are bits we will want to keep and parts we need to let go of. (Leave behind)

Thank you Future Schools for a great night!
