Why creativity matters – STEM professionals share with the next generation the importance of staying curious on this week’s fourth episode of Future Byte

On Wednesday more than 200 students enrolled at Nazareth College, Boneo PS and Mt Eliza PS connected from home or in classes over Zoom with Andrew Hynson, CEO of Cornerstone Earth, Monique Lautee, Technology Events Coordinator of TOM Melbourne, Gemma Wildermuth, Yr 11 Cornish College and Sanjay Ravichandran, Yr 11 Melbourne High.

So good to see such enthusiasm on the call reflected in the activity seen on Slido. A great way for students to engage with creative STEM Professionals keen to inspire other young creative minds. Some great questions from curious minds. We unpacked two parts to creativity – being curious (the thinking part) and being innovative (the doing part)!

Andrew Hynson a very experienced engineer shared his latest invention, “BOB”. Andrew and his company, Cornerstone Earth are passionate about closing the loop on single use plastics. BOB takes recycling of plastic milk bottles to a whole new level.

Monique Lautee, a former RTL facilitator, graduated from Engineering a few years ago, worked as a consultant at Deloitte and is now the Technology Events Coordinator at TOM Melbourne. They create and build products that help improve the lives of people living with disability, where there is no obvious or current solution in the market. They focus on making assistive technology more accessible and affordable for people with complex needs.

RTL embraces the hybrid model making it easier for young people to learn and be inspired by Industry STEM professionals using video calls that make for a more interactive exchange of information than was previously possible pre pandemic.
